Smile Texas's Cosmetic Dentistry Journal

  • Nursing a Toothache?

February 9 is Toothache Day – the origin of this holiday remains a mystery, but there are theories.

Perhaps Toothache Day is February 9 because this date is also the feast day of St. Apollonia, the patroness of dentists. Perhaps it’s because the ninth day of the second month of the year is when the Hershey Corporation was officially founded. Whatever the origin of Toothache Day, it’s a good day to do something about that aching tooth – it could lead to more troublesome oral health.

Whether you’re recoiling in pain from cold foods or hot foods, whether your tooth is sensitive to the touch, the fact remains – you’re in pain and you need help! Don’t suffer with tooth pain. A simple cavity could lead to much worse, including the need for a root canal or even a pulled tooth.

If you’re afraid of going to the dentist because you do fear that your toothache pain is an indicator of something worse, don’t let it hold you back! At Smile Texas, it’s our goal to give you a healthy, beautiful, natural-looking smile. So even if you do need reconstructive work, we can make it as painless as possible with sedation dentistry, and we have the tools and means to make whatever repairs necessary, be it dental implants or dental bridges and porcelain crowns.

  • A Closer Look at Sedation Dentistry

Sedation dentistry could also be called “no excuses” dentistry – meaning, your fear of sitting in a dentist’s chair, watching him work on your teeth, no longer has solid footing. Sedation dentistry is designed to put your mind at ease.

Sedation dentistry offers you the ability to “sleep” through your chosen dental procedures, whether you’re undergoing treatment that involves dental implants, porcelain veneers, or porcelain crowns and bridges.

This method is especially ideal for our high-anxiety patients who really need peace of mind and reassurance that they can literally wake up and see the finished smile makeover they’ve long been dreaming about.

It’s not just anxious patients who benefit from sedation dentistry. Many of our Smile Texas patients are in need of multiple, complicated dental repairs – rather than visiting a traditional dentist and having these procedures dragged out over weeks, months, or even years, sedation dentistry allows us to complete a number of dental procedures at once, saving you time and energy.

Choose from the latest sedation techniques: oral-conscious sedation, IV sedation, or nitrous oxide. We even provide comfort items like pillows, blankets, or your favorite music. (Teddy bear available upon special request!)

Learn even more about the benefits of sedation dentistry by watching our sedation dentistry video series. Want even more proof of the advantages of this option? Hear endorsements of sedation dentistry directly from our patients themselves during their appearance on Great Day Houston.

  • The Top 5 Dental Complaints

Many people have something they don’t like about their smile or their teeth – and many of those people have dental problems that are actually getting in the way of a healthy smile and overall well-being.

Dark teeth, old crowns and fillings, uneven gums, missing teeth, and teeth grinding are the top five dental problems that we help reverse at Smile Texas.

You cannot have a beautiful smile unless you have a secure foundation for the cosmetic dentistry – so we make sure that your mouth and gums are healthy and ready for the right solution.

The cosmetic dentistry solutions for the top five dental problems at our office can include porcelain bridges and crowns, porcelain veneers, dental implants, diode laser gum correction, K7 bite evaluation, and neuromuscular dentistry. Often, a smile makeover can be completed in just two visits to our office. Sedation dentistry is a helpful tool in allowing us to carry out multiple dental procedures at one time.

Javier is just one example of someone who fits into each category of top dental complaints – and look at his before and after photos:

  • Be Your Own Personal Smile Trainer

The New Year brings an increase in gym memberships. We say, invest in yourself with a smile makeover that will truly make you feel like the best version of yourself.

New Year’s resolutions typically have a very short lifespan. Statistics show that about 80 percent of people who make resolutions don’t even make it through the end of January before giving up on the goals they’ve set. That means a lot of wasted new gym memberships, and a lot of unhappy people feeling unaccomplished.

So make a resolution that will give you results almost immediately – and may even provide you with the necessary motivation to hit the weight room or Pilates studio. The goal we recommend only requires that initial determination to be the best version of yourself – a smile makeover. At Smile Texas, we’re the ones who do the work while you reap the rewards of an attractive smile that makes you feel amazing.

A specific, measurable goal is what experts recommend for people who want to actually stick with their resolutions. So it’s up to you to take that initial step and contact us at Smile Texas for your complimentary consultation. Improving your oral health can jump start your willpower in other areas of your life, and a new smile truly can change you for the better.

  • Plastic Surgery vs. Cosmetic Dentistry

Plastic surgery is costly and often involves a painful, lengthy recovery. There are easier ways to rejuvenate your face, starting with a smile makeover.

A very noticeable “face lift” benefit of your smile makeover is the lengthening of your back teeth and expansion of your bite. People who have ground down or lost their back teeth often have a caved in look to their face. The “dental face lift” rebuilds the bite and restores a more youthful, full facial appearance. It can even make your lips and cheeks appear younger, fuller, and healthier because they are better supported by your teeth. Your look is improved from every angle!

Another very noticeable benefit of your smile makeover is beautiful, white teeth. Our teeth naturally darken as we age and so the human eye associates darker or yellow teeth with age and white teeth with youth. Of course, with a smile makeover not only will your teeth be the right color they will also be beautifully shaped, straight, and in proportion to your face.

You truly go face first into this world – when you’re proud of your smile, you are more likely to take better care of the rest of your body. If you’re dissatisfied with your grin or suffering with an unhealthy mouth, you will be less motivated to take good care of yourself. Plastic surgery isn’t a quick fix – but a smile makeover can be completed in as little as two visits to our office.
