What Is a Porcelain Crown?
A crown is an all-porcelain; permanent restoration that repairs broken, or badly damaged teeth. It differs from a veneer in that it covers more tooth structure, such as when severe decay has set in. Crowns are also used as an anchor for permanent bridges to replace missing teeth. All-porcelain crowns are natural-looking in appearance, strong, non-staining, and included in Our Last Time you Pay policy.
The Porcelain Crown Procedure
Porcelain crowns are completed in two visits. The first visit requires preparing the teeth for the final porcelain restorations. Temporaries will be placed while your case is crafted by a master ceramist. At the second visit, your case is seated, and you leave with a beautiful, brand new smile! This procedure can be done in as little as 48 hours!
What is a Porcelain Bridge?
Porcelain bridges literally “bridge the gap” between one or more missing teeth. A dental bridge consists of:
- two crowns, one for each of the teeth on either side of the gap,
- and a false tooth/teeth in-between your two natural teeth or dental implants.
These false teeth are made from porcelain and are supported by your natural teeth (or implants).
The Porcelain Bridge Procedure
The dentist will begin your dental bridge work by filing down the adjacent teeth to accommodate the crowns. Then, the dentist will take impressions of the teeth, which will be used to create the porcelain crowns.
Once the crowns are finished (crowns are made from all-ceramic materials), the false tooth (teeth) will be bonded to them. When the porcelain bridge is ready, a return visit to the dentist will be necessary to place it on the teeth. During your final visit, the dentist securely cements the crowns over the surrounding teeth to complete your smile with the dental bridge. With proper care, dental bridges will last five to seven years and, in some cases, longer.
