Lumineers | Houston, TXAt Smile Texas, Sugarland, TX area residents have the opportunity to enhance their smile with cosmetic dentistry solutions. Drs. Rick Kline and Bret Davis are dental professionals available to answer patient questions in regards to treatments that can help them in addressing imperfections of the smile. In many instances, our team of professionals may recommend solutions such as Lumineers.

What are Lumineers?

Our professionals describe Lumineers as porcelain veneers that do not require extensive preparations. Traditional porcelain veneers are thin porcelain facings that are custom-made to cover the front of a tooth to give it a completely different appearance. To place traditional veneers, the dentist needs to remove a portion of the enamel from the front of the tooth to ensure the veneer does not add unwanted bulk to the smile.

With Lumineers, patients can avoid the removal of perfectly healthy enamel. Lumineers are thinner than porcelain veneers, allowing them to be placed without harming the natural tooth underneath. If patients later decide they don’t want to use Lumineers and want to seek alternative solutions, the Lumineer can be easily removed and the smile back to its original appearance. We encourage patients who have imperfections near the front of the smile to ask about Lumineers as a reversible option.

Who is a candidate for Lumineers?

Any patient with imperfections near the front of the mouth on the anterior teeth may benefit from the placement of a Lumineer. However, the tooth underneath the Lumineer is still susceptible to tooth decay and periodontal disease, so it is important that patients visit their dentist every six months for an evaluation and to monitor the health of the smile—as this can impact one’s health and the restorations that are currently in place.
