More and more patients these days are requesting that our Doctors use sedation dentistry in order to help them overcome their dental fears. Believe it or not, most of our patients at Smile Texas have chosen to wait until their dental work becomes absolutely necessary. As a result, the patients allow their oral health problems to build to the point when drastic dental treatments become essential. For instance, our patient Jack saw his father having a tooth pulled at a dentist’s office and the experience was so traumatic to him that he subsequently avoided seeing a dentist unless it was extremely necessary. His mouth developed a widespread infection that resulted in chronic bad breath and might have even been life threatening had it spread. He decided to take action and contacted us for a consultation. His treatment consisted of dental implants in his upper and lower jaws and custom made replacement teeth. The entire procedure was done with IV sedation, greatly easing the process.
One of the major benefits of sedation dentistry is that people often feel like their dental procedure lasts only a few minutes, when in fact it might have taken hours to perform. As a result, complex dental procedures such as smile makeovers or extensive rebuilding procedures that normally require multiple visits can often be performed in fewer appointments.
