Healthy SmilePatients who want a more beautiful smile need to work diligently to keep their teeth and gums clean and free from periodontal disease and tooth decay. At Smile Texas, Sugarland area patients can speak with Drs. Rick Kline and Bret Davis to discuss their dental health needs. If you are looking for tips and recommendations to achieve a healthier smile, read on to learn about the four key elements of better dental health.

  • Routine dental visits. The American Dental Association that makes recommendations for dental health advises patients of all ages to visit their dentist at least twice a year. During these routine dental visits, the patients will have their teeth cleaned by a dental hygienist. X-rays may be taken to further evaluate one’s dental health, especially to look for problems that reside below the gum line and hidden during a physical evaluation. Additionally, a dentist will look for signs of periodontal disease and tooth decay, and make recommendations of any treatments that may be required.
  • In-home cleaning. After every meal, patients should brush their teeth with a fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristled brush. For added measures, flossing should be done each time as well to remove food particles from between the teeth. Brushing and flossing can be done each day to ensure bacteria, food particles, and other elements that could harm the teeth are removed from the surfaces of the teeth and gums.
  • Healthy diet. Foods such as sodas and candies are not only bad for the body, but bad for your teeth! Sugars and acids can form film on the teeth that can develop into plaque and tartar. These can be difficult to remove from the teeth once they’ve hardened, and can contribute to the development of disease and cavities.
  • Early interventions. As soon as a dental problem arises, getting in for an appointment is critical. Whether a patient experiences trauma to the mouth or has a severe toothache, early detection, diagnosis, and intervention is critical to getting the smile back to health. Many problems left untreated can become more serious and more expensive with time.
