Lumineers vs. traditional porcelain veneers

Porcelain veneers are made of ceramic and are incredibly thin. The dentist files down the front of the tooth prior to taking impressions. These impressions are used to create the veneer in a dental laboratory. The porcelain veneer is bonded to the front of the tooth and covers many different types of imperfections.

Lumineers, on the other hand, are thinner. Because they are thinner than traditional veneers, they do not require patients to remove healthy tooth structure to place them. Lumineers can bond right over the natural tooth, and they can be removed at any time. Many patients love the ability of using Lumineers without the need to file down healthy tooth enamel to place traditional veneers. However, because of the thickness of porcelain veneers, this is necessary to avoid adding extra bulk to the smile.
